Equanimity?
Everyone puts so much emphasis on the body nowadays. Sure, I agree that if you want to have a healthy life you need to exercise and watch what you eat. Being overweight can lead a wide range of problems (health problems and other non-health problems, like not being able to find a decent pair of jeans that will fit you in the entire store) and that is why it's important to take care of our bodies.
As important as our body is, our mind is important as well. The Romans had an interesting saying: “mens sana in corpore sano.” Which translates to “a sound mind in a healthy body” or “a healthy mind in a healthy body.” One handy way to maintain a “healthy mind” is to meditate.
The problem is that when you’re meditating you’re supposed to close your eyes and relax – which can be a problem if you know you have an important meeting in two hours. Constantly having to check the time is frustrating and a major nuisance. Sure, you have one hour to meditate, half and hour to get ready, and then another half an hour to get to your meeting, refreshed by your meditation. But if you kept checking the clock during your meditation session, you won’t get there refreshed, you’ll get there frustrated.
And this is where the Robin Barooah-developed app Equanimity comes in. Thanks to the functionality it has to offer, you can easily track and time your meditation sessions. Here is what you can expect to get from Equanimity, from a functionality point of view:
- A handy timer so that you don’t have to constantly check the clock.
- Daily reminders in case you forget to meditate or in case you’re pretty busy and need reminding.
- A journal so that you can take notes after meditation sessions.
- A graphic chart that depicts your meditation habits (how often you meditate, for how long you meditate, your progress over time).
- Export data saved by the app, email journal entries.
Meditating is all about letting go of your frustrations and achieving piece of mind. The last thing you need when you want to mediate is a difficult to use app. This is not the case here. The app is quite easy to use and everything about it is focused on offering you a calm experience.
